for truths by now that i should know,
for favors that only ever went one way
all the potholes I failed to miss.
i'm forever making lists.

and I don't know where to put
all these good intentions anymore.
heard someone asking
“who’s punk what’s the score?”

i feel like I’m forever making lists,
for memories to trade place
with presence at slower pace.
there's a deserted cave that I can call my home,
in the back of my head where hope and self trust roam.

that I retire to every once in a while,
close my eyes and try to crack a smile.
and in the choking light my quest for fire sparked,
